English as a Second Language Program in the United States

University of Delaware (UD) is extending an invitation to students and faculty from the Laureate International Universities network to participate in English as a Second Language programs offered by the English Language Institute (ELI) at UD. With more than 20,000 students, University of Delaware is a nationally and internationally recognized research institution that offers bachelors, masters, and doctoral degree programs. UD is located in the city of Newark, Delaware and was founded in 1743.

The English Language Institute founded in 1979 is an academic unit in the College of Arts and Sciences and is located on the University’s campus. ELI offers the highest-quality intensive English programs for degree-seeking students, business and legal professionals, English language teachers, and general English language learners.

Program Description
The program at University of Delaware is designed to help students to improve English language skills.
The program provides 112 + hours of instruction in the classroom, laboratories and one-on-one private tutoring meetings (Monday through Friday). Cultural trips and activities in the weekends.

LIU students and faculty participate in courses to develop skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing English.

Who should participate?

  • Students, faculty, staff and alumni from the Laureate International Universities network interested in improving their English language skills
  • 18 years old and above
  • All levels of English (Basic-Advanced) accepted
  • Participants do a placement exam once they arrive to Delaware

The state of Delaware offers a wide range of options for students to travel, go to the beach, visit historic museums and take road trips to nearby cities such as:
New York, Washington DC, Philadelphia, and Baltimore
